The University of the South’s Winter Convocation will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, in All Saints' Chapel. Honorary degrees will be presented and about 110 new members will be inducted into the Order of the Gown. During the service, the Rt. Rev. Robert Skirving will be installed as chancellor of the University. Ellen Lehman, the founding president of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, will give the Convocation address. Sewanee celebrated Founders’ Day Oct. 12 with the traditional Convocation in All Saints’ Chapel. Ning Tang, C’98, delivered the Founders’ Day Address and made a case for the importance of a liberal arts education in developing global citizens and responsible businesses: “What makes a company great? I do not think it’s the business model; I think it’s about people, about integrity, social purpose, diversity, openness, innovative culture. And for all those, I have drawn great strength from what I learned at Sewanee.” Watch his full address below.
